Pokerogue Pickup List
Pickup ability demo in PokerogueHow to use pick up in Pokerogue?
In the early stages of the Pokérogue experience, players can expect to encounter a familiar and ubiquitous duo of Pokémon – Zigzagoon and Meowth. These two species are commonly found within the initial 20 waves or encounters, making them a reliable and accessible part of the game’s early-game ecosystem.
The presence of these Pokémon in the opening waves serves multiple purposes. For new players, it provides an opportunity to familiarize themselves with the basics of Pokémon battling and team-building, as Zigzagoon and Meowth represent relatively straightforward opponents to engage with and overcome.
Furthermore, the frequency with which these Pokémon appear allows players to build a solid foundation for their teams, potentially capturing and training one or both species to supplement their growing rosters. This early-game abundance of Zigzagoon and Meowth ensures that players have a reliable source of experience points, resources, and potential team members as they navigate the initial stages of their Pokérogue adventure.
Equally valuable is the inclusion of Houndour, an ever-faithful canine Pokémon that complements Zigzagoon’s capabilities. The combination of Zigzagoon’s versatility and Houndour’s steadfast support has allowed me to navigate the initial challenges of Pokérogue with relative ease.

Pickup Tips & Mechanics
- Pickup triggers after most battles if a Pokémon with Pickup is not holding an item.
- Higher level Pokémon may pick up rarer items.
- Some events or boosts can increase Pickup frequency or item rarity.
- Try running multiple Pickup Pokémon for more chances per battle.
- Pickup does not work if the Pokémon is fainted or holding an item.
Run Planning & Farming Strategy
Pickup is most effective when you plan around item slots and battle frequency. Use a dedicated Pickup slot early, then transition to stronger carriers once your team stabilizes. In Endless runs, prioritize survival and clear speed to maximize the number of item rolls per hour.
- Keep Pickup users item-free so the ability can trigger after battles.
- Use healing between floors to avoid wasting rolls on consumables you already have.
- Pair Pickup with faster sweepers to minimize turn count and increase encounters.
